Additional Information
Gallery Frame vs. Regular Frame
A gallery frame is generally deeper and thicker than a regular frame. It can accommodate both gallery-profile and standard canvases without the artwork extending beyond the back. Gallery picture frames with glass also provide more depth and create a stronger dimensional effect on the wall.
What Is a Mat?
A mat (mat board) is a cardboard insert with a central opening that creates spacing between the artwork and the frame. It is used for paper-based artwork, not canvases. When a mat is included, glass is typically added to protect both the artwork and the mat. Acid-free or conservation mats indicate archival quality, helping prevent yellowing and long-term damage to the artwork.
